Museum of the Scottish Shale Oil Industry

This website was established in May 2010 and has developed continuously since then. Our aim is to share information held in our museum collection and archive with a wider audience, encourage further research into the history of the industry, and provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge. Spotting inaccuracies in these pages or able to fill gaps in our knowledge. We would also greatly welcome offers of volunteer assistance.

DESCRIPTION

During 20092010 Almond Valley Heritage Trust was granted funding by Museums Galleries Scotland and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to identify and describe collection material relating to the Scottish shale oil industry held by museums, libraries and archives in Scotland, the wider UK and abroad. CONTENT

This website states the following, "The website provides item level descriptions of 8202 objects, archives, media items and geological specimens stored in 3266 searchable records, belonging to 47 organisations." Our analyzers viewed that the web page said " The intention was to include only material contemporaneous with the industry and any items described as a copy were normally excluded from the survey." The Website also said " However, it is likely that in some instances the level of information available may not have been sufficient to exclude some modern copy material." The website's header had Shale oil as the most important search term. It is followed by oilshale, Scottish shale oil industry, and shale mining which isn't as highly ranked as Shale oil. The next words they uses is shale mine. West Lothian was included and could not be viewed by search crawlers.
